Advanced Project Management Workshop - Course Description

The Advanced Project Management workshop is a specialist 2-day workshop that provides participants with a professional exploration of the tools and techniques which have been accumulated over many years of practical experience whilst managing projects. This collective wealth of knowledge has been tried and tested by our Project Management Professionals (PMP®) and is designed to accelerate your learning to improve your competence in the workplace. The subject matter is generally aligned to the Project Management Institutes (PMI®) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®).
The workshop is designed for anyone who wants to go beyond basic project management to be a true professional. It focuses on a totally pragmatic approach. You will learn the many invaluable lessons learned and compiled by our experienced practitioners.
The workshop includes case studies and interactive exercises to ensure that participants learn, first hand, the practical application of the subject matter.
Who Should Attend?
This is not a beginners workshop, nor is it a fast track cram course. Rather, it is designed to build on your existing fundamental skills and accelerate your learning to raise your competence to the next level.
Pre-Requisites
Participants should have a good knowledge of the basics of project management as covered in the 2-day Fundamentals of Project Management course.
Learning Outcomes
The objectives of this workshop are for each participant to:
- Understand the importance of the project business case in project selection
- Identify and analyse stakeholders for more effective communications, improved requirements management and risk management
- Understand the role of the project manager as a leader in developing and managing the project team throughout the entire project lifecycle
- Identify & use versatile tools to facilitate setting project objectives, validating requirements and work packages and identifying stakeholders and risk events
- Use the WBS as the central link to Scheduling, Budgeting and Risk Management
- Learn advanced techniques for project duration and cost estimating
- Learn techniques to develop and critically analyse a critical path schedule
- Develop and manage project threats and opportunities
- Learn to manage the project schedule using a simple forecasting technique
- Learn advanced Earned Value techniques to improve project control
Special Features
An interactive technique (Nominal Group Technique - NGT) is used at the beginning of each day to compile a prioritised lessons learned list of the knowledge, tools and techniques viewed by the class to provide maximum return in the workplace. This has proven to be a very useful input into various organisations’ project management capability development programs.
