David Lynas
David Lynas is currently enjoying his twenty-fourth year of experience in Information Security, during which he has been invited to provide strategic advice to governments and industry clients on every continent.
David has a proven record of success in leading literally hundreds of projects across the broad spectrum of business sectors ranging from high profile banking and financial sector initiatives, through internet voting for federal elections, to managing risk to homeless people, and creating a professional body to govern the industry and assess the competency of information security practitioners. His work has ranged from solving local business security issues up to high-profile national and global strategic initiatives with budgets of hundreds of millions of dollars.
David Lynas is a globally renowned Enterprise Security Architect, Security Strategist, and Thought-Leader. In 2006 he was appointed as a Fellow of the British Computer Society (FBCS CITP) for “Exceptional leadership, eminence and seniority in the field of information security.” During 2006 he also became the first person in four years to be honoured with the prestigious Computer Security Institute Lifetime Achievement Award - the only professional from outside North America ever to receive this honour in CSI’s 33 year history.
David is the founder and chair of COSAC (www.cosac.net) which brings together the intellectual power of the industry’s leading innovators to solve current issues and develop leading-edge approaches. Now entering its fourteenth year it is widely regarded as the world’s premier annual forum for innovation and leadership in the Information Security profession.
David is co-author and developer of SABSA® the leading Methodology for designing business-driven Security Architecture and resolving complex business security issues. He is also co-founder of the SABSA Institute (www.sabsa-institute.org) charged with world-wide development and governance of the method and the professionals who use it.
David was one of the first practitioners to become a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). He introduced the credential and its tests to the United Kingdom and Ireland in 1997 and personally funded the then annual Irish tests and examinations for a period of 7 years.
Recognising the need to protect critical national infrastructure, the on-going industry and commerce dependence upon information systems, and the public interest in governing those charged with protecting society in the information age, David was chosen in 2005 to lead the creation and development of an Association of Information Security Professionals (AINSEP) in Singapore. AINSEP is charged with elevating the professionalism, status and trust afforded to Information Security Professionals by creating a manpower development framework and performance measurement and governance structure similar to existing trusted professions such as Doctors, Lawyers, and Accountants, in order to provide assurance and accountability to employers and the public about the competence of Information Security Professionals.
David is in constant demand as a presenter and speaker and has delivered major presentations, key notes, and training courses on more than forty different aspects of Information Security, Strategy, and Architecture around the globe.
Approximately 14,500 Information Security, Audit, IT professionals and Business Executives have attended David’s courses and presentations in the past three years.
David is the co-author of ‘Enterprise Security Architecture: A Business-Driven Approach’ ISBN 1-57820-318-X commissioned to be the definitive and most comprehensive security architecture text reference ever published. Published by CMP books (now part of the Elsevier Group) it is available from leading book stores and on-line book sellers.
David Lynas is an Associate of the ALC Group and heads the Enterprise Security stream of ALC/PDA's Information Security Education Program.
