SABSA

Robert is an experienced Enterprise Security Architect with an information security career spanning 10 years in Australian Government before moving to an Enterprise Security Architecture consultancy role.

In his current role at David Lynas Consulting, Rob has quickly become a recognised and respected member of the Enterprise Security Architecture community. In 2018, he received the Matt Whelan Award from The SABSA Institute for the highest scoring SABSA Practitioner Exam paper of the year. The paper has since been published the SABSA Institute. Rob also volunteers for The SABSA Institute, currently leading their webinar programme.

In early 2021, Rob successfully achieved his SABSA Chartered Architect – Master Level Certification, joining a select group of SABSA Masters around the world. His Masters thesis involved the development of an automated security architecture assessment tool using the SABSA framework.

Rob’s recent Enterprise Security Architecture experience has involved successful delivery of engagements for high-profile clients in Australia, Saudi Arabia, UAE and the United States. Rob is well versed at all stages of the security architecture lifecycle. Recent engagements have included work in defining information security strategy, security architecture design and alignment with business processes, transformation and automation of security and architecture processes, and planning and integration of security services and mechanisms to clearly support
client business goals.

Rob is committed to contributing to the information security industry outside of employment and currently sits as the Deputy-Chairperson for the WA branch of AISA (Australian Information Security Association). In his time at AISA, Rob has played key roles in planning and executing their Perth conferences in 2019 and 2020.

Rob was responsible for creating the (ISC)2 Western Australia Chapter in 2020 and is an (ISC)2 Official Certified Instructor for the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP) and Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) courses. In previous roles at the Department of Transport and Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage, Rob worked as a Principal Developer, developing and managing the digitisation and automation of security processes. Rob led a high profile transformation effort to digitise sub-division applications for the Western Australian Department of Planning. The role involved planning and executing the architecture and on-going management of a PCI-DSS complaint service that was favourably recognised in Western Australia Parliament Hansard.

Rob has Bachelor of Commerce in Information Technology from Curtin University and a strong list of information security industry certifications.
