Latest approaches to Succeeding with IT Governance

This one day management seminar on IT Governance focuses on the ISO 38500 standard for IT Governance and COBIT, the de facto framework for IT Governance, and demonstrates how together they can provide an integrated system for IT governance and management to deliver business value and meet compliance with regulatory requirements.

The seminar will explain the need for IT governance and its relationship to corporate governance with reference to recent real world scenarios. You will learn about the relationship between corporate and IT governance and details of the minimum baseline for IT governance based on recent research.

The origins, structure, purpose and content of the ISO 38500 standard will be explained in terms of the 3 governance tasks and the 6 principles of IT Governance with an outline of an approach to implementation.

The seminar will explain the origin and components of COBIT 4.1, the current version, at a conceptual level. You will learn about COBIT's major concepts: the five focus areas, information requirements, resources, the 4 domains and 34 processes, the control objectives and metrics. You will also understand the key approaches to implementation including how COBIT maps business goals to IT goals and then to IT processes and to understand and use the COBIT mappings to other frameworks and standards such as ITIL, ISO 20000, PRINCE2, PMBOK and ISO 27001. An approach to implementation in SMEs and as a "quick start" in larger organisations - COBIT Quickstart  - will be included.

Finally, the scope of the planned developments for COBIT 5 due in 2011 will be outlined.
